World Cup Sunday in Vilnius

We had said we wanted to find a pub in Vilnius to watch the World Cup final, and that's almost what we did. We had dinner in a cellar restaurant called Lokys that offered the game on a big screen. The crowd mostly favored France, but the Italian contingent held its own in the cheering department. The game was broadcast in Lithuanian, of course, but it didn't matter; sports commentary is probably the same in any language. We were among those favoring Italy, so were pleased with the result.

We spent most of the day escaping the heat. The wonderful Hotel Rinno moved us to a room with air conditioning. I think the staff took pity on us because we probably were a hot, sorry sight. The AC isn't cold enough to form icicles on your nose, but it does offer some relief. And the room is much larger.

Other distractions from the heat included an organ concert at St. Casimir's church and a beer at an outdoor cafe.
