Touring Riga

Good news! Luggage arrived, Italy is in the Word Cup final. We're enjoying Riga, although the hot weather and cobble streets make our touring pace kind of slow.

Riga architecture is fascinating. We especially liked the black cat building and the Art Deco buildings. The Old Town and neighboring areas are all walkable.

We strolled through the Central Market this morning, where you can buy everything and anything. The main market is in five old zeppelin buildings and overflows into every square foot of pathway and street in the vicinity in the summer. Whole sections of the market are devoted to cheese, to bread, to meat, to fish (including smoked fish), plus clothes, shoes, cosmetics, toys, underwear, tools, garden supplies -- you name it. Strawberries, rhubarb and cherries were in good supply at $1 a pound or less.

Sue stumbled on a yarn store with many of the Italian and German yarn at screamingly good prices. Italian mohair-silk laceweight at $4 a ball. Another visit is in order before we leave.
